DGYO in 2022-23

We do hope that all our players enjoyed the return of DGYO to more normal activities in the 2021-22 season.  We're all going to have a well earned break now until the autumn.  However we're already starting to plan for next season and we thought it would be good to let you know what we hope will happen in 2022-23.

Here are some dates for your diaries.  You don't need to sign up now.  We'll get in touch later in the summer to ask you to do that.  But it would be helpful if you would note the dates now so that you can see what's coming up and can avoid any conflicts.  Here goes:
  • 1 October 2022 - rehearsal.

  • 5, 12 and 19 November 2022 - rehearsals.

  • 19 November 2022 - private concert for parents/grandparents after the rehearsal.

  • 11, 18 and 25 March 2023 - rehearsals.

  • 25 March 2023 - public concert after the rehearsal.

  • 6 and 13 May 2023 - spring sessions of lighter music for new players and those in the midst of exams!

  • And as a treat we hope to arrange a trip, probably to Glasgow, to hear a big professional orchestra playing in a concert.  If we can arrange it this is likely to happen in either January or February.
We hope that's enough to whet your appetites for the moment.  Have a great summer and we'll see you in October.  New players always welcome!

Become a patron or sponsor of the orchestra

Dumfries and Galloway Youth Orchestra relies on the generosity of supporters to enable it to continue to operate. Without such generosity DGYO would be unable to continue which would be a great loss for the young players who get such enjoyment from it. Not only that but a musical education, such as DGYO helps to provide, develops and enhances so many of the attributes that everyone needs in life such as listening skills, teamwork, analytical skills, creativity and communication.

We should therefore be very grateful if you would consider becoming a Patron (individual) or a Sponsor (corporate) of the orchestra to help us keep the orchestra going.

Welcome to our DGYO website. The DGYO welcomes all young players of orchestral instruments who live, work or study in Dumfries and Galloway and we offer opportunities for all levels of experience. See the section called "Taking Part" for more information. Joining the orchestra will provide you with a wonderful opportunity to learn pieces and arrangements from the main orchestral repertoire. Together we will develop our playing skills in a way that motivates, inspires and encourages all of us valuing everyone’s contribution in a true celebration of music making. The DGYO will not only enhance your music skills but also provide you with the opportunity to develop your listening, teamwork, analytical, creativity and communication skills. You will meet other musicians from across the region and play together as a full orchestra as well as practise in small groups with expert tuition from our professional volunteers. Joining the orchestra is free. We hope that you enjoy looking at our website and if you have any questions or would like further information, please email me: contact@dgyouthorchestra.org.
