New Woodwind Coach For DGYO

We're very happy to welcome Rebecca Carson as our new woodwind coach. Rebecca has recently returned to her roots in Dumfries and Galloway where she was born and bred.

As a young musician Rebecca was a member of the National Children’s Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra and National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, where she sat as both principal flute and second flute.

She won a scholarships to Wells Cathedral School which she attended from the age of 13 as a specialist musician, before going on to complete an undergraduate degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. While at the Guildhall Rebecca won the Needlemakers woodwind competition and appeared on BBC Radio 3 Total Immersion.
In 2017 Rebecca then went on to complete, with Distinction, her Masters at The Royal Academy of Music in London.

Since completing her studies Rebecca has performed with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, English national Ballet, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, sitting as Principal flute, Sub Principal flute and piccolo.

Although classically trained Rebecca loves folk music and many other genres of music. She absolutely loves working with young musicians and feels very passionate about passing on her experience to the younger generation.

Rebecca has just begun working as a woodwind instructor for Dumfries and Galloway Council and is very excited to be getting involved with Dumfries and Galloway Youth Orchestra.
